ValueAppeal finds early success in Colorado

At ValueAppeal, we’re confident in our product and the service we provide our clients.

And the results since we started in 2009 back that confidence up. Nationwide, we’ve had about an 80 percent success rate in helping clients save on their property taxes, and those clients see an average of about $830 in savings.

Yet despite all of that success, whenever you try something new, you just never know for sure. We serve about 80 percent of the United States and are continuing to expand. One area we began serving for the first time this year is Colorado and we had a strong response from those interested in using our service. But, again, you never know how it’s going to go.

Which is why Monday was an exciting day in the ValueAppeal office.

Our week started on a great note when we heard back from our first two clients in Colorado, and both reported impressive savings. Bob in Littleton was the first to call up to let us know he accepted a savings of $860 for the previous two years. Later, Mark from Littleton outdid Bob, reporting that the county agreed to lower his assessment from $524,410 to $440,000, which will result in a savings of $1,100-to-$1,200 over the previous two years.

Both Bob and Mark were excited about their result, and we were definitely excited for them. We love hearing success stories, and since Monday we’ve heard from a few more Colorado clients who have had similar success.

Each state has its own quirks when it comes to the property tax appeal process. In Colorado, there are two separate processes, the abatement and the appeal. The abatement is essentially filing for a refund on taxes paid since the last assessment, which in Colorado was 2009. The appeal is filing for savings on the current tax assessment.

So far, we’ve been limited to helping Colorado clients with the abatement process. However, Colorado property owners have started receiving their new property assessments in the mail, and in the next few days ValueAppeal will switch our Colorado data to support the appeal process rather than the abatement process. The deadline to appeal your current assessment is May 31. After that, we will switch our system back to the abatement data and you’ll be free to file an abatement review. Be aware that in Colorado, there is a window to appeal your current assessment (May 1-31) but you may use the abatement process all year.
