Miami residents recently received their newest property tax notices, and for many, like those all over the country, it came as a big shock. And celebrities are no different.
The Miami Herald took this look at the tax bills of some of the local celebrities and, as you can imagine, there are some big numbers there.
The Miami Heat made waves in 2010 when they signed LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade on the court, and while they didn’t bring an NBA championship to South Beach, they did add to the city’s tax base. Combined, those three paid $509,739 in property taxes.
While James and Wade are the bigger names, Bosh pays the most in property taxes. His North Bay Road mansion is assessed at $8.7 million, with a tax bill of $176,558. LeBron has a $9 million home with a tax bill of $162,020 and Wade paid $171,161.
Actor David Caruso of CSI Miami had a tax bill of $39,835 on his South Beach home. Very high for the average person, but he’s practically a pauper compared to P. Diddy, who paid $276,675 on his Star Island home, and Gloria Estefan paid $164,124.
Barry Gibb, lead singer of the Bee Gees, owns four Miami Beach properties for which he pays $151,038. Actor Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice paid a bill of $32,526 on his South Beach condo and artist Romero Britto paid a property tax bill of $30,592.
A few other sports personalities paid hefty bills. Former Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson paid $21,334 on his $2.1 million Florida Keys home. Plaxico Burress of the New York Jets paid $43,031 on his $2.1 million Lighthouse Point home and NBA Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen paid $77,967 on his Lauderdale home. His neighbor, David Cassidy, paid $33,280 on his condo.
The biggest spender in South Floriday, though? That’s Russian Dmitri Rybolovlev, a fertilizer magnate and one of the world’s richest men, who paid a property tax bill of $1,084,022. In 2008 he bought a home from Donald Trump for $95 million. And his tax bill was actually good news for him, because the home was assessed at $56 million, almost $40 million less than what he paid for it.
